What is the difference between spigoted and bolt-together truss?
Truss
Connection types between truss types vary and have a large impact on the strength of the truss. Plated truss is bolted together and due to it's exact lengths and corner blocks, it can be used to create very uniform and modular structures.
Spigoted truss also comes in various lengths but connects together via interlocking metal ends that have a female (two prong) on one side and a male (one prong) on the other side. Once the ends are brought together, they are held in place with hardened pins and R clips. Plated Truss is generally not as strong as Spigoted truss due to the load path on the plated truss not being continuous through the main parallel cords.
Picking the correct truss type for the application generally falls on Production Rigger as they are responsible for the entire load path of the elements they are being charged with hanging.
