Projector vs. LED wall: when should I use a projector instead?

Planning and Practical Considerations

Projectors have specific advantages over LED walls in several scenarios. They're the right choice when you need to display on non-flat or irregular surfaces (projection mapping onto buildings, scenic elements, scrims, or curved surfaces). They're also more practical for very large display areas where the cost of LED would be prohibitive, or when you need the screen to be semi-transparent (rear projection through scenic gauze, for example).

Projectors are also standard in theatre, where projection design is an established discipline with specific creative language and aesthetic expectations. And in worship, education, and corporate settings with permanently installed screens, projectors often make more financial sense for the facility.

LED walls win on brightness, contrast, and performance in ambient light. But projection remains essential in the production toolkit for surface versatility, large-format coverage, and creative flexibility. Many high-end productions use both.
